Polar Nights | The day is full of moonlight for some months in these villages and towns. In some villages in the arctic circle, it is night for days during winters. Months will pass and the sun will not rise. If one village in this region has night for two months, another village is dark for four months. How is that possible? Do you think this is strange… But read the story of those long nights…
It’s enough that winter has come, when will it dawn. When will it be cold in the heat of the sun, We are waiting for the sunrise. But in those cold regions where the water freezes, no trace of the sun can be seen in winters. They don’t get a chance to walk around with a blanket of sun even for a while. The reason for this is the phenomenon of nature known as ‘Polar Night’. A night lasting 24 hours is called a polar night.
It is known that the Earth is tilted twenty-three and a half degrees on its axis. Therefore, in some areas of the arctic circle near the poles, the sun’s light does not shine in winter. There is a difference in the nights formed in those places depending on the distance of the respective villages from the arctic circle. These types of polar nights occur in Sweden, Canada, Greenland, Russia, Norway and Finland, including some parts of America.
These long nights last for months in some areas. The most popular city in it is Utkiagwik in the state of Alaska in the United States. The sun is seen only between November 15 to 19 in this town, which is stacked coherently between the snow hills. Then he will rise again after January 20. That means that there will be no sun for almost two months. Last year, the sun did not make an appearance for more than 65 days. Also, the long night lasts from the last week of November to the middle of January in the municipality of ‘Tronso’ in Norway.
In Svalbard, Norway, from the first week of October to the end of February, that means there is only night for about four months. There will be darkness in this region for about two and a half months from mid-November. But except for one Svalbard, darkness means we don’t have pitch black like midnight.
Along with the light of the moon and a large number of stars, the light of the sky is reflected on the water. All the areas with snow and water are seen shining brilliantly as if immersed in blue color. In addition to these, the ions belonging to the solar gases in the ionosphere collide with the oxygen and nitrogen atoms in the earth’s atmosphere, and the colorful aurora borealis is seen in that region. Nature lovers come from all over the world to capture all this on camera. Feel the long nights.
