The BF7 is a Sub-lineage of the Omicron Variant BA.5. According to PTI it is a highly transmissible variant with a shorter incubation period. It also has a higher capacity to cause re-infection and can even infect vaccinated individuals.
According to a study published in a journal ‘Cell host and Microbe’, the BF 7 Variant has a 4.4 – fold higher neutralization resistance than the original Wuhan virus. This means that the anti bodies from the vaccination are not effective enough against virus.
Symptoms of the Omicron B7 variant include the new variant present symptoms similar to upper respiratory infection as Common Cold, Fever, Fatigue, Sore Throat, Headache, Bodyache, Cough and Respiratory Symptoms, Stomach Pains and Loose Motions.
Severe Headaches are one of the first symptoms of Omicron. The first case of this highly infectious strain was detected in Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre earlier in October. With three cases in Gujarat and one in Odisha, the number currently stands at 4 in India. All three patients were treated in home isolation and completely recovered. The case in Odisha was also detected earlier this year, and the patient has been treated.
