This longest railway platform in the country is located in Hubli district of Karnataka. The full name of this railway station is Sri Siddarudha Swamiji Hubli Railway Station. The Central Government has reconstructed this station at a cost of Rs.20.1 crores. This railway station falls under South Western Railway Zone of Indian Railways.
Hubli is an important business center in the state. Hubli Railway Station is an important junction in Karnataka. From this junction, trains go towards Bangalore, Hospet, Goa and Belagavi. This district is also an important center of business in North Karnataka. Through this, products manufactured in Karnataka are sent to other parts of the country and imported from there.
In order to reduce the increasing burden on the railway station, besides renovation of 5 old platforms, 3 new platforms have also been constructed there. Of these, platform number-8 is 1507 meters long. It is the longest railway platform not only in India but also in the world. This platform is developed for long stay of freight trains. Two electric locomotive freight trains run simultaneously from this station.
