Abhilash Tomy who created history. No one has done that adventure till now!

Former employee of the Indian Navy, Commander Abhilash Tomy successfully completed a long adventure. He created history as the first Asian to circumnavigate the world by crossing seas in a boat. 44-year-old Abhilash Tomy overcame adversity in the seas and traveled 30,000 miles for 236 days in a boat to win the Golden Globe race.

Abhilash Tomy touches the finish line in France’s Les Sables d’Olenno port after South African woman Kirsten Neuschafer. Kirsten stood first and Abhilash stood second in the expedition. Abhilash continued his journey in a 1968 vintage boat. He had to repair his boat many times during the journey. However, he finished the race in second place.This expedition, which started in September 2022, has entered the records as the toughest expedition in the world. A total of 16 sailors from 11 countries competed in this race.

By the time the race had completed 26,000 nautical miles, there were only three left in the race. In the end only Abhilash and Kirsten managed to complete the race. It took 236 days 14 hours, 46 minutes and 34 seconds to complete their daring race. The trip started on September 4, 2022 and ended on April 29, 2023. Kirsten is the only woman among the 16 sailors in the Golden Globe race. It is noteworthy that the woman became the winner of the race and created history. Kirsten was also given 23 hours of differential advantage time by the organizers for saving fellow sailors from drowning.

Tommy previously competed in the Golden Globe race in 2018 as well. However, on that occasion his boat got caught in a sea eddy and got wrecked. In this accident, his spine was severely injured. He made a full recovery within five years and became the winner of the 2022 race, making the entire nation proud of India.
